THe 1936 United States general election was held on November 3. Democratic incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to serve a second term as President of the United States, defeating Republican nominee Alf Landon. The presidential election coincided with U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and gubernatorial elections in several states.[1][2]
The Democrats gained twelve seats in the House of Representatives, furthering their majority over the Republicans. The Democrats also maintained a majority in the Senate, gaining seven seats.[2]
